Ancient Wisdom

"Know thyself"

The Ancients taught that to understand one's self was to understand God, and through the practice of meditation, one could connect with divine energy within. From this heightened sense of Self, one could learn to transform bondage into freedom, poverty into abundance, fear into love, death into life. The Mystery Schools of Asia, Egypt, Sumeria, Persia and Greece, provided an invaluable service to those of us living today, by maintaining a core of awakened spiritual initiates who kept alive the sacred knowledge of the creative power of each soul to rise above limitation.

In 1995 I participated in Jean Houston's Mystery School in upstate New York. Jean is a master teacher of teachers. And when I spoke to her of my desire to teach the ancient mysteries, she graciously replied that these processes are owned by no one and available to all. For her teaching and support, I will always be grateful.

My desire to teach came through a vision and a dream. In my dream, I swam a great river and found six keys, and I understood their meaning. I was also aware that there was a seventh key yet to be found. Isis appeared to me in a vision, told me to find the space to teach, create my flyers, and begin. I would be guided in my teaching. And so it was that I began to teach the ancient Egyptian mysteries of Isis and Osiris, and more mystery wisdom teachings followed. To me, this was proof of an important spiritual principle: when you are grateful for the gifts you have, more gifts are given.

For many years I have recited the prayer of St. Francis of Assissi, as a personal mantra. I have come to understand that St. Francis was another incarnation of Pythagoras. I end with this beautiful prayer.

PRAYER OF ST. FRANCIS OF ASSISSI

LORD, make me an instrument of Thy peace,

Where there is hatred, let me sow love;

Where there is injury, pardon;

Where there is despair, hope;

Where there is darkness, light;

Where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek

To be consoled, as to console;

To be understood as to understand;

To be loved, as to love.

For it is in giving that we receive;

It is in pardoning that we are pardoned;

It is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
