What I Learned From My Dad The Doctor

The Doctor Showed Us How To Die
And Taught That Healing Is Not Always Curing

My Dad, a medical doctor specializing in internal medicine, was diagnosed in 1987 with multiple myeloma (cancer of the bone marrow). I sent him the book I was then reading, Bernie Siegel's classic book, Love Medicine and Miracles. Dad's initial response to Siegel's book was that, as a scientist, he needed verifiable data, and this book was based on 'soft' information. Eventually something (I wish I knew what, perhaps it was his disease) changed his mind. Dad invited me to be his guest as his book club discussed the very book he had previously dismissed.

I deeply value the experience of visiting this small heartland hospital/clinic book club comprised of doctors, nurses, and mental heal practitioners. Three quarters of those present discussed their personal experiences with cancer, some were actively engaged in fighting cancer in their bodies, some were currently in remission. All of them felt there was something in this 'soft' experiential book worth pursuing, though professionally they still wanted hard evidence.

My answer to this conundrum was provided by Barbara Brennan* in a workshop I attended in the early 1990's (I offer a paraphrase from memory): "What does it matter if energy can be proven 'true'? What really matters is that it works!"

Vibrational energy healing continues to prove its worth in my life and in the lives of those around me.
